Dr Dole Medical Foundation was founded in 1982 by Dr. Manohar K. Dole (Founder Trustee) and his colleagues in memory of Late Shri. Mohan Thuse, a devoted young social worker. This charitable eye hospital is registered under Bombay Public Charitable Trust Act No. F 2678 dated the 7th March 1984.
Dr. Manohar Dole Medical Foundation’s Mohan Thuse Eye Hospital & Research
Institute, Narayangaon, Tal-Junnar,Dist-Pune (Maharashtra) was established in 1982 with the
aim of providing total eye-care treatment free of cost to the poor local and tribal populace. It started
its activities in a small, old house. Over the years, with financial help from public-spirited
individuals and institutions and allotment of a plot of land from the State Government, the Hospital
now functions from spacious premises with a built-up area of over 10,000 sft. It has 3 Operation
Theaters, 10 Special Rooms, a General Ward with 100 beds, a pathology Lab and latest surgical
equipment including Phaco Machines and Green Laser. Our area of coverage has now expanded to
Ten tehsils of four districts (Ahmadnagar, Pune,Thane & Nashik). It also includes the hilly and
tribal regions. To extend our out-reach; we conduct diagnostic eye camps within radius of 100 kms.
Patients detected with cataract are transported to the Hospital in our ambulance & operated upon.
So far, we have operated over 1,75,000 cataract surgeries successfully.
We wish to say that our resolve remains the same viz- to provide free eye-care treatment to
the poor & needy, help restore their vision & thus make them self-reliant. As per the latest Census
figures, the number of disabled persons in India is over 2.2 crores. Of these, over 1.08 crores are
visually handicapped (i.e. over 48%). This is indicative of the enormity of the task that still lies
ahead of us. We are determined to persist in our efforts and make the area under our coverage a
Cataract –free Zone.
This achievement has been possible largely due to the moral and financial support we
received from generous and philanthropic individuals and organizations all through our
eventful journey.
The world bank has chosen this hospital for non recurring grant as well as the District Blindness Control Society (Pune, Maharashtra) has granted permission to the hospital.
The donors can avail benefits under IT Sec.80 G(50%) & Sec.35 A/C (100%) Income Tax exemption facility.
The Hospital is registered under foreign contribution Regulation Act. (F.C.R.A. NO.083930345).
